On Monday, May 5th, a ruby throated hummingbird literally knocked on my office window where I have had a feeder for the past couple
of years to let me know it was time to put out the sugar water.
I did so and by Tuesday, May 6th, dozens of the hummingbirds were
back at the three feeders I have around my house and they were hungry. Already a few hummed others away so they could feed. It's a delight to have them back. They seem thinner than
when last I saw them at the end of the summer 2006. Do they gain
weight after a summer of nectaring in preparation for southern migration?
