Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/10/2007

Number: 1

Latitude & longitude are a bit off. This was River Farm Park on the Potomac, a bit up the river from the Mount Vernon estate (whose coordinates I actually entered).

Earliest larvae I've EVER seen in my area! I saw over ten; there were likely many more. Oldest were about 3 days, based on size. Youngest was newly hatched on May 10 or previous night. Chewing patterns didn't indicate any larger or older larvae. None of the milkweed was much taller than 15." Looked like all incarnata. Location: by a river, in a small open meadow, near gardens FULL of flowers.
