Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/19/2007

Number: 1

After the psuedo sightings reported for 5/14 (eggs laid, but did not see any Monarchs), finally on 5/19 saw the first adult laying eggs. It was a warm and windy day. The following day was very cool -> 30 degree temperature drop to the 40's in about 8 hours. Not much was moving that day, especially Monarchs. Then the warm and humid air returned on 5/21 with a flush of egg laying. On 5/19 found 6 eggs. One 5/21 found 45 eggs and on 5/22 found a new set of 23 eggs on the same plants as one 5/21. Each of the days above, except for 5/20 saw solo Monarchs flying around, often staying in one area for a while. Sometimes nectaring on Lilac and other spring blooming flowers. The peak spring egg laying has occured in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
