Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/13/2007

Number: 1

First sighting of monarch butterflies came on 5/13 07 (Mother's Day
Sunday) about a week earlier than last year. The winds were high at 20 to 35 mph and SSW. Temp high for the day was 88 degrees with full sun.
Sightings came around 7:30 pm with 3 to 5 butterflies in our backyard and within two blocks of us while walking our dog. Couldn't get close enough to tell sex, but colors we dark and bright. Saw one chasing a pair of red admirals. Interestingly we spotted one at the sheltered park by us where the fall migration goes through and tagging occurs.
