All this time waiting and when it finally appeared to me, I had to chase it down beach until she alighted as I have been disappointed twice before by...I think...American Copper moths. Fresh and colourful, she's probably the first hatchling generation. There has been lots of of stands of milkweed for weeks...all with crowns of flowers now. I have checked these for eggs,,,there are tiny white specks laid usually on the stem of the leaf, usually one by one. (I've never looked for the eggs before.)
