Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/09/2007

Number: 1

I saw my first two Monarchs of the year on 9 June 2007 about 8 miles west of Higgins Lake Michigan. One in Kalkaska County and the other in Missaukee County. I usually expect to see Monarch about Memorial Day Weekend in the USA. That is the end of May or very beginning of June.

I usually am able to find Monarchs in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan before I find them in the Lower Peninsula. My hypothesis is that Monarch follow the Mississippi River and tributaries North and then dispersal eastward more slowly so they actually get to the lower Peninsula later than the Upper Peninsula.
