Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/12/2007

Number: 1

Just noticed the very first itty-bitty monarch caterpillar resting among the buds of one of our swamp milkweed plants this evening. I knew where to look because it had chewed a tiny hole in a leaf near the buds. It's only 4mm long and 1mm wide at this point but you can already see tiny stripes on its body and tiny "horns" at the head end of it. :)
