Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/18/2007

Number: 1

I was very surprised when I found a caterpillar on the common milkweed(June 18th) which was very close to chrysalis stage. Brought it in and today, June 20th, it went into the "J" position, so tomorrow will be the start of "raising kids" for the summer. There have been several monarch females, an older one and a fresh one flying around, but still have not found any eggs....my first sighting was May 30th, which is probably when the egg was layed for this caterpillar. The swamp and common milkweed are in full bloom and much farther ahead by 2-3 weeks compared to other years.
