Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 06/23/2007

Number: 1

Regarding the Monarch’s, I just drove from Saskatoon to Regina (Saskatchewan) to Brandon via Yorkton (Manitoba), and on to Winnipeg last week and saw lots of Monarchs. Unfortunately many were road kill. I collected a few off the main highway by driving slowly on the shoulder and jumping out and grabbing them as they lay injured and unable to fly or dead on the ground after being hit by cars. Between Yorkton and Dauphin Manitoba, there must have been a dead butterfly every few hundred meters of roadway, the majority of them were Monarchs. Others included swallowtails and even large Bombus spp..
