Today, while doing plant monitoring at Illinois Beach State Park, in Zion, Lake County, IL, we saw numerous monarchs - probably at least 20; I also saw one fifth-instar on A. syriaca, kind of early for our area, it seemed. So it seems that IBSP is a stopping point for these lovely butterflies! : ) We also saw several other kinds of butterflies, most notably red admirals and great spangled frittillaries, but also sulphurs, skippers and pearly blues.
