I made a comment about wishing there was a Butterfly Garden at Lee Richarson Zoo. (Be careful what you wish for!) I was told, "Barbara, we have the perfect place for you. It began as a butterfly garden, but nobody has taken care of it, so you can have it." Well, it was a huge weed patch with bee balm, sunflowers, purple cone flowers, sage, mint, & a few plants that I couldn't identify. Laying amongst all this was a network of soaker hoses. I'll make a long story short. After 6 pickup loads of weeds hauled OUT and 12 BobCat scoops of mulch hauled IN, the Butterfly Garden was just great. I planted Maximillian Sunflowers, Evening Primrose (as a host plant to Sphinx Moths), Milkweed (as the host plant to Monachs), and Ruda (as host plant to all Swallowtail species). Dill and parsley was also planted. Hey! It wasn't 3 days until there were eggs on the host plants, bees & butterflies on the nectar plants, and many comments about how quickly the "Garden" took shape. I was very hap
