After another chilly night (down to 50 F), temperatures warmed up to about 70 F and in the mid morning, while driving back to Toronto from Cobourg, I noted a strong movement of monarchs, flying high across Hwy. 401 (expressway). At the shore of Lake Ontario at Oshawa, Rayfield Pye reports the following:
Oshawa Second Marsh- Sunday, August 19
Monarch- 50 to 100 per minute
migrating westward
Every where I looked today there were large numbers of migrating Monarchs. Even well out over Lake Ontario. It is the largest migration that I have seen.
