Although a recent cold spell must have sent the monarchs for cover for a bit, a trip to Haddam Meadows State Park (Haddam, CT, along the Connecticut River, about 15 miles north of Long Island Sound) today yielded sightings of 4-5 early instar caterpillars, 1 adult (with a curled wing, not flying well, but nectaring on red clover), and at least 20 eggs. I brought a few eggs and one first instar caterpillar home to raise (along with a lot of milkweed to feed the 20+ caterpillars currently residing in my kitchen!)
