I spent the weekend kayaking and hiking in the Seneca Rocks and Dolly Sods area of West Virginia. At Seneca Rocks, in east central WV on the South Branch of the Potomac River and at an elevation of 1500 ft, found an laying eggs on A. syriaca, and also found both 4th instar and 2nd instar cats on cut-over but fairly mature A. syriaca. Atop Dolly Sods, about 20 miles to the NNW and at an elevation of 4100 ft, saw numerous s (perhaps 20) nectaring on a variety of native asters and goldenrods and again, found one laying eggs on A. syriaca. No indication of a southwestward movement among those s I viewed.
