Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 08/30/2007

Number: 1

Sighted the butterflies in the early evening like last year. The temperature in the day was in the mid 70's. The night time low last night was 57F. The weather this Summer has been extremely dry. Unlike last year when most of the Monarchs roosted in our white spruce and Austrian pines, this year they preferred the silver maple trees. I took several pictures and uploaded them to my Picasa public web gallery >http://picasaweb.google.com/vburolla/MonarchsRoosting2007< if anyone is interested. My guess is they numbered in the hundreds, maybe a little less than last year, but as they were spread out more, the quantity could be wrong.
