We started feeding hummingbirds 5 years ago when one flew up on the porch and looked in out dining room window as if expecting something. We started with one small feeder that we had to empty, clean and refill every couple of days. Today I had out 3 2-cup feeders that I had to fill twice. We estimate at over 3 dozen hummingbirds preparing for migration, or maybe some already on their way. We live in the country and are lucky to have native flowers for hummingbirds including Trumpet vine, Honeysuckle, hollyhock among others. Our slow time is in early to mid August when the cotton is in full bloom, we have to cut back on our feeders until late August. Then its back to full feeding until they migrate out. We also have plentiful small insects which I understand they also enjoy.
