Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/01/2007

Number: 1

Last year the monarchs started showing up around the same time. This year they are gathering at our farm, like last year. I don't see them arrive, but they gather in the cedar trees (two in particular) and flutter around until they leave. The trees are on the north side of the grove and last year when they started gathering to move on south they started gathering in the Ponderosa pine trees that are on the south side of our grove. It was quite a show and I took many pictures. If they continue to gather this year, probably this next week, I am calling the school to let the science teachers know as they may want to bring the kids out to see. I will post another update after this weekend. Last weekend the weather was warm, 90's. It has cooled off today and is supposed to stay in the 70's for the next week.
