Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/08/2007

Number: 1

For 3 weeks many, monarchs have been visiting my milkweed patch on Lake Greenwood in Cross HIll SC. They are not here in the summer months. Now caterpillars have gobbled up every leaf in sight. I have even rescued some larva from frayed stems and put them on more abundant stalks of milkweed. I took the larva to school and am raising the larva with my second graders. My classroom looks like an entomologist lab. We are sampling adults and are a part of the UGA study with Dr. Sonia Altizer in GA. I am waiting for a true migration and looking for a roost. That is my goal this year. Plant the milkweed~they will come!
