Yesterday (9/09/07)I ventured along railroad tracks where there is ample wild carrot and spotty sand vine. This will be turned into a bike path in the coming years.... Anyway, I found a couple of 2nd instar Monarch caterpillars and 6 eggs (as well as black swallowtail eggs and caterpillars). I would say this was 10% of what I found before. It would be easier to judge if I had an entire field of beautiful fresh milkweed to search. I kept hoping to turn some vine over and find a big fat caterpillar, but no such luck!
