Monarchs began to gather on the Wednesday (about a dozen) then over the next few days the weather was unsettled(rain and overcast). By Saturday at sunset their numbers had increased to at least two hundred. On Sunday morning the weather cleared and shortly after 10:00 all but about five had departed. I described the scene on the Saturday evening to be like a monarch airport as the butterflies drifted in a couple at a time and joined the roost. In the back of my yard there are a variety of trees but the monarchs preferred the tamarack trees. I took many pictures of this and it was a great thrill.
