This weekend at Holiday Beach, the Monarch movement has not waned. Every day last week up to and including Saturday & Sunday the movement of Monarchs has been incredible. At times on Saturday, some of us down at the passerine station had difficulty distinguishing Broad-winged Hawks with Monarchs. Always, Monarchs, Monarchs and more Monarchs in the mix of our binocs! On Saturday and Sunday night, Carl & I counted many roosts of several hundred on the cottonwood and poplar tree-tops. The movement of monarchs along the shore is unlike any I have seen.
Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum of 1000 monarchs based on observer’s comment of “counted many roosts of several hundred”
