Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 08/31/2007

Number: 1

We have seen several hundred Monarchs in our trees around the house for a couple of days. The first day that we observed the Monarchs was 8/31/07. They seemed to be gathering in the trees in several masses to keep warm for the evening. Yes there was a cool front overspreading the area on that night. We also saw the butterflies early the next morning and then the next evening at about sundown they began to gather in there masses again. We see them all summer long because we have quite a few butterfly friendly bushes in the yard, but it is usually just a dozen or two at a time. This was an incredible sight to behold seeing so many at one time. So, we had butterflies, en masse, for two consecutive nights, 8/31 and 9/1/07.
