Signs of Fall

Date: 09/21/2007

Number: 1

I've noticed several reports of the Ruby Throats already migrating, we still have 7-8 feeding on a daily basis. Temps have been upper 80's, with lows in mid to lower 50's. Skies have been extremely clear, especially at night.

The starlings have moved back in recently but not in large numbers.

We've experienced an extreme drought up until a couple of weeks ago, we finally received the much needed rain. Our lawn has jumped back surprisingly well.

Our Chickadees have also returned and are feeding on our seed bells & suet. Along with a pair of Red Breasted Nuthatches which are new for our feeders. Possibly in migration and will leave shortly.

Also with all of the reports of the Monarchs migrating around our location, we've saw a few around. None seemed to have been on the move or migrating yet.
I'm looking forward to their migration this year, hopefully it will be as good as last years. I wonder though if the past drought will have any effect on the route they choose?
