Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/23/2007

Number: 1

The students have reported daily seeing at least three to five monarchs in their neighborhoods. In the past week, from September 15 - 20, the students have seen about 45 monarchs. They live in a rural area near a suburb to our state capital. The weather was cool evenings and nights with warm days (high 70s and low 80s). Our length of days are about 12 1/2 hours.

In addition, we've been observing a pair of monarchs that are flying in our schoolyard. The students and I often see them during our recess, which is mid-day and usually in the mid-70s. They've reported seeing them during their Phys. Ed. class and during the after school program as well. We don't know if they're the same ones, but, when we see one, we do look for the second one to fly by almost immediately!
