Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/24/2007

Number: 40

9-24...thru 9-26
I observed my first roost on 9-23.{previous report}
The next morning..about 1 hour after sunrise they began to flutter...and most left.
The eve. of 9-24...and thru 9-25 has been much cooler. we had a much neede rain..then cloudy. There were about 40 monarchs roosting the eve of 9-24 same branch..oak tree.
The eve was windy...they "rode" those leaves...much like a surfer would ride the waves. The morning of the 25th was rain.
a drizzle alternating w showers/thunder.letting up some in the afternoon....Ii checked them frequently that day...about the same number stayed until later afternoon.{about 330 pm}
watching them in the rain...all hanging...w wings folded..not moving much at all. There were proably more..as when still with closed wings they look like dead leaves.i did not see most of them leaving...I saw only ..about 10 that eve.
This morning {26}was clear and cool. Not a single monarch on any visible branch in my location. This eve I saw 2 flying .
