Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/26/2007

Number: 1

What another amazing day for the JS Monarchs in our area. I really wish I'd have been less busy on another day off work because the Monarchs were coming through here at a rate of 1.5 per minute at least. I counted 71 in a limited time of being free to look and enjoy. I alerted my teacher friend here in Ponca City, and he called me at recess (this morning) to report 20 spotted in a mere 15 minutes! I was telling my barber-lady about the Monarchs, and she said, "I haven't seen any this year". Wow, before I got out of her chair, she spotted 3 of them thanks to me pointing them out to her...some folks are oblivious unless taught how to actually SEE something. That amazes me almost as much as the numbers passing through here right now. Today's high temp was about 80 degrees F with light and variable winds most of the day.
