Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/26/2007

Number: 1

This may be my last report to this category of PEAK Monarch Migration. Today was a lovely day with little wind and a high temp of about 82 F. The day started out rather slow with the Monarchs not wanting to fly through the dense fog we had this morning. I walked several miles to a Dr. and didn't spot any until about 9:40 AM. (10 from 9:40-10:05 AM) I watched periodically through the day and saw another 82 before dark. So, the per minute rate overall today has dropped somewhat from the past two days-today's was .75 apx. per minute. What a wonderful southern migration it's been around here this year! I spoke to a total stranger this morning and asked him if he'd been enjoying any Monarchs. He surprised me by saying "Yes, I saw hundreds of them in Tonkawa yesterday.(9/26)" Tonkawa is a small town apx. 15 miles to the west of my location.
