Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/28/2007

Number: 1

Have seen small numbers of monarchs fluttering around in search of and nectaring on flowers. At the Children's Center we're raising two. One monarch hatched and was released yesterday. Another caterpillar is feeding voraciously - eating six leaves of butterfly plant each day and the STEMS (something the earlier caterpillars didn't do). It has reached maturity from "baby" status in about one week. At home outside on butterfly plant a single caterpillar is keeping pace with the one I've been observing inside. Saw another newly hatched one early in the week. Two to four eggs on leaves.
