Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/23/2007

Number: 1

I found 5 mature Monarch larvae in my garden this past weekend. They were munching away on milkweed I planted in the spring. I hope they will have time to pupate and fly south for winter. I also found a Monarch butterfly feeding in our school garden on 09/26/07 feeding on a zinnia flower. It looked in perfect condition without any blemishes on its wings. Not sure if it hatched recently or not. Our students released thirty Monarch butterflies from our school in late spring after rearing the larvae in the classroom. They were very excited to watch life change before their eyes and participate in a release.
