Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/26/2007

Number: 1

Sept 26 & 27, Damascus, MD 20882:

There has been a constant flight of monarchs through our region the last
2 days. Winds have been calm or light from the south. Monarchs are flying low (between 10-30') and seem unhurried (lots of floating and circling going on). Each afternoon, there were dozens of new monarchs stopping in my yard for nectar. The most popular flowers were Mexican flame vine, Mexican sunflower, yellow sneezeweed (Helenium autumnale), Maximillian sunflower (Helianthus maximilliani), and New England aster.

Heading to Assateague Island, VA tomorrow. Hoping to catch a wave of monarchs after the cold front goes through.
