Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/25/2007

Number: 200

Over the past couple of weeks I have sighted just a smattering of Monarch. But the wind turned strongly out of the north here on Monday night and on Tuesday I spent the whole day wandering about the ranch and saw literally hundreds of Monarchs, all traveling with a purpose on that strong northerly breeze.

Late Tuesday, the wind laid and Monarchs by the dozens gathered in the oaks, mulberry and shrubbery here at the ranch
headquarters for the night. It was quite a sight. The temperature dipped to about 55 degrees up here last night (9/26/07).

Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum of 200 monarchs based on observer’s estimate of “hundreds.”
