Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/03/2007

Number: 1

This morning when the temp reached 58 degrees, I started seeing the beauties flying through here. They started out low to the ground. Most were <10 feet in height. I even had one particularly friendly one land on my knee. When the temp reached 60 F and sunny, most of them began to get higher in altitude. This morning netted 207 in 90 minutes, giving us a per minute rate of 2.3 Mpm(Monarchs per minute). (My figures are always rounded.) This afternoon I counted another 100 in 80 minutes, so the PM rate was apx 1.8 Mpm. Total today was 309 in 170 min, equalling a per min rate of 1.82 per minute. Temp today was perfect with a high in the very low 80's with a light and variable wind.
