My second graders and I saw a bright female monarch in the garden next to our school this noon. The temperature today was 75 to 80 degrees. We are having an unseasonably warm weather pattern. The monarch was so busy sipping on an aster that I was able to catch it with my thumb and forefinger. We inspected it and then let it go. All of our tags are gone. It took off in a southernly direction. The kids hope it gets to Mexico, but even they realize that it is getting late.
