Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/03/2007

Number: 2000

On Wednesday October 3rd, we saw approx 100 Monarchs in their annual roosting location on our ranch just North of Sweetwater. They come every year without exception to roost in the tall willow trees along a 1/2 mile stretch of a creek that rust through the property. It is always within the first week of October. On Thursday there were about 400, and last night (Oct.5) we estimated 2000. We usually peak out within 3-5 days of the first arrivals with anywhere from 100,000 to 500,000! We will head out again today to see if more arrived overnight and report back. Even the 2000 here last night was a spectacular sight!
