I hope I am reporting this in the correct site. I am pretty excited to report the sighting of three whooping cranes about one hour ago in a small marsh in Jackson county, Michigan. They appeared to be two parents and a younger bird. They stayed long enough for me to go home and get my video camera, so I was able to tape them for about 15 minutes, until they took to the skies, circled the marsh a couple of times, then headed south. In this region, we are very accustomed to seeing sand cranes, that I affectionately refer to as 'Michigan Flamingos', but these were definitely whooping cranes. I only regret not having a higher quality camera to capture them in greater detail.
