Symbolic Monarchs (Sent)

Date: 10/10/2007

Number: 1

Hola! The Students at North End escuela, en Cedar Grove, NJ, have been raising mariposa Monarcha for the past cinco anos. Some years we had children from Kindergarten through fourth grade involved. We also have had speech classes, BSI classes and Media-Center teachers raising and teaching about these beautiful insects. In addition, we have grown milkweed and a mariposa garden to help encourage more monarchs to come to New Jersey.

Every year parents and children alike are thrilled to see the monarcha caterpillars arrive. Today, we had a huge parade to released our mariposas so they can begin their long journey to Mexico.

Over the years, our students have worked hard to learn about the life cycle through song, art and dance. They have also learned about Mexico and its wonderful culture. I have been fortunate to visit with the scientists in Mexico who are helping the world learn more about these creatures. I also had an opportunity to visit a local school. The children and teachers were so friendly!

Thank you for looking after our symbolic butterflies over the winter. We look forward to receiving butterflies from you in the spring.

Adios!
