Symbolic Monarchs (Sent)

Date: 10/11/2007

Number: 1

During September and early October, our class of 16 girls and boys fed 5 monarch larvae milkweed leaves until they formed chrysalises. Each butterfly emerged from its chrysalis after 12 or 13 days. We released each one in the goldenrod at the edge of our schoolyard! Our beautiful real butterflies are migrating south, along with the 16 colorfully painted symbolic monarchs we sent to Mexico (via Journey North) on October 10, 2007! We can't wait until next spring when we'll receive symbolic monarhs from students from other parts of the country!
