Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 10/13/2007

Number: 1

The monarch which went into chrysallis form early Sunday a.m. Sept.30 hatched out Thursday morning October 11 and was released about 4:30 p.m. It didn't nectar on the flowers we put it on (verbena, petunias and its choice - marigold) but fluttered weakly to the nearby sidewalk to sun. Then it flew to my red and black shirt where it clung soaking up the western sun. Temperatures were mid 70's, with a light cool wind and the sun was shining. The 2nd chrys. turned "clear"? between 4:30 and 5:15 Thurs. p.m. so we could see the wing pattern. Thought it would hatch Friday. Today is Saturday and it has wisely stayed wrapped up tight as there has been no sun, lots of rain and wind and temps have ranged between 50 and 60.
