Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 10/12/2007

Number: 1

We just saw what seems to be one of the last monarchs in our area. We had been seeing the monarchs with great frequency, in our yard and around town, until this past week. The temperature was around eighty degrees with very little breeze. This monarch seemed very low in energy and actually crawled onto my daughter Marleys hand and stayed in our yard for several hours. Its body looked nice and fat and its wings were not tattered so maybe it had just emerged from its chrysalis? We first noticed this 'last' monarch near the milkweed. It did feed near the mint plants on a flowering weed with yellow flowers and on, what I think is, chamomile. At one point it flew up into our willow tree and rested there for about an hour. We took some amazing pictures of this monarch resting on my daughters hand.
