Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/13/2007

Number: 1

There were Monarchs both Saturday and Sunday. We arrived Saturday about 2:00 pm and left Sunday at 12:30 pm. Sunday morning about 11:30 am was the greatest number. It was terrific! I would say we were seeing about 6 to 8 per minute. The wind was blowing from the north but not too strong. On Saturday afternoon, there was a stronger wind coming from the west.
Saturday afternoon about 4:00 pm I walked along the dunes which have a lot of golden rod - there were many butterflies in the flowers. I can safely say I saw more than 200 during the two days. The butterflies were even coming at the car as I drove north to the grocery store!
