Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 10/18/2007

Number: 1

The monarch pupa that we moved indoors on 7 OCT 2007 emerged as adult male monarch at noon 18 OCT 2007. I had not watched a monarch emergence for many years, so this was exciting to me. I took many photos from the moment the chrysalis split along the vertical seams until we released the butterfly onto a fir tree in the yard at 1400 hours. The butterfly remained on the fir until 1600 hours when it started its journey by fluttering directly toward the sun. Is this is a late beginning for migration this far north?
