Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/21/2007

Number: 1

There are several hundred Monarchs that have been roosting in the trees in my backyard for about 3 days now (10/19 - 21). The numbers are increasing daily. I suspect they are waiting for the approaching cold front and the push of the north winds to aid in their journey. There were other species with the Monarchs initially, but they have moved on. I have shown the Monarchs to everyone that I can get to come over, as this is something that I have only seen once before in my life of 49yrs. Can't get anything done around here until they leave. Too beautiful to miss. I have always been interested in Monarchs since I was a young boy and witnessed a huge layover of Monarchs in North Texas. Trees and bushes covered in thousands of Monarchs on a crisp fall morning left an idelible impression on me.
