Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/19/2007

Number: 1

My class and I were outside for dismissal on Friday, October 19, 2007, and noticed butterflies floating and flying overhead. Since we study monarch and viceroy butterflies in our A Beka Science curriculum, I brought my students' attention to the butterflies. Several times within a minute an orange butterfly or two would float by overhead and they were all headed south. I began to get suspicious that they were migrating which lead me to your site to make sure I could have possibly seen a butterfly and to make certain I saw a Monarch and not a viceroy. I was able to get a close enough look at one to be absolutely certain it was a monarch. The others, I can not positively identify.
