Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/25/2007

Number: 1

I am assuming that this is part of the peak in their migration. They have slowed down a bit now (5:30 pm), but they are still very dense. Please note there are many small butterflies--not monarchs--also in this group.

I would not even hazard a guess, but I do think I've seen thousands of them today. Some are spending the night in my neighbor's palm trees here in West Galveston right near the Galveston Island State Park. My neighbor took pictures, but the monarchs are folded up and hanging from the brown ends of the leaves and are very hard to see.
