Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/24/2007

Number: 200

We have had thousands of monarchs on the Island. I live very close to the Gulf of Mexico and have many palm trees near my house. The monarchs roosted last evening and this evening (10-24 & 10-25) in the hundreds on the palm fronds. I have taken several photos of this and would be happy to share. What a grand sight this has been. (October 26th update: They have left now, and I don't see many flying. For two days it was the best. Wednesday & Thursday were prolific. Wednesday evening they roosted in my trees and then again on Thursday evening.)

Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum of 200 monarchs based on observer’s estimate of “hundreds.”
