Dottie N. spotted thousands of monarchs bedding down three evenings in a row Oct 22, 23, and 24 in Sunset Park, Portland, TX. We've had "Norther" weather on those days. The park is a long narrow strip of land between Sunset Lake and Corpus Christi Bay.
I don't know the protocols for counting, but there were thousands when I went to look this morning (10/25). Most were still clinging to the Saltcedar and popinac trees, but some were beginning to move or feed on the sunflowers.
Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum of 2000 monarchs based on observer’s estimate of “thousands.”
