Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/25/2007

Number: 1

My husband I witnessed the greatest migration on the Texas City Dike on Thursday 10-25-97. The monarchs were all along the road, in the shrubs and palms and rocks. It was incredible. The wind was blowing out of the north, northwest and I believe they were taking shelter. My husband was on the TC Dike around and 11:00 am. when he noticed how many monarchs were flying about. It was a few hours before he finished his errands. We live about 30 minutes away so he came home to tell me about them. We arrived at about 1:30 and did not leave until around 3 or 3:30. They were still coming in across the bay. About 4 weeks ago we were on the TC Dike and found the common Buckeyes migrating. There were thousands of the Buckeyes but there had to be a million Monarchs. It was an incredible day. I had heard of this but never dreamed we would witness such an event. A friend went out the next day and said the monarchs were there but not in the great numbers we saw them.
