Now that I look at the wind charts again, they are closer than I thought at first. This is what my notes showed ...
a quick glance at the long week ...
Oct 23 (Tues) Wind strong out of W up to 50 mph
Oct 24 NW @ 15+ 400/hr NE at dark
Oct 25 NW 10-15 800+/hr predicted to change to N
Oct 26 (Fri) 12:00 2300/hr NW light
2:15 4000/hr NNW @5 huge numbers across causeway
3:30 - 4:30 very light NNW to NNE to E
big clusters on west side of peninsula after dark
Oct 27 250/hr NNE early to NE but light
Oct 28 40/hr NE 10-18 mph
Oct 29 am NNW 90/hr after 12:30 NNE to NE 40/hr
then picked up to 10-15 out of NNE
Oct 30 (Tues) NNW light winds, calm midday, NNE late
100/hr
Oct 31 light NW am 100/hr changed to E and SE by 2:00
Nov 1 light NNW am 60/hr light NE after 1:30
Nov 2 light NW am N by 12:00 NE turning to SE by 2:30
120/hr in am high fliers
I may have mistyped something, but this is what my fingers are thinking on a Friday night. We seldom have a streak of this much light NW-NNW wind with crystal blue skies.
Only for a couple of days the vast majority of the monarchs here have been flowing past before 1:00 when there was still some light NW wind ... many hours of just calm.
The first few clouds showed up today and I thought it was a balloon race
