Tulips PLANTED

Date: 11/07/2007

Number: 1

Heavy frost this morning, but warmed to high temperature of 49° F by noon and 47° F at our 2 p.m. planting time. We planted 45 bulbs, three for each of our 15 students. Soil was cold, rocky, and a little hard to dig in. Several parents came to watch and help our first graders measure the depth of their holes to 7" and space bulbs 4" apart. We needed more planting time than we planned for and some work on the garden needed to continue after school was over. We used a combination of bone meal and fertilizer to enrich our soil and feed our bulbs over the long New England winter. Many thanks to our parent coordinator, Jill, our school, and the companies who sponsored our planting materials, tools, and aprons! We're also thankful to all the parents who helped us by rototilling our soil, building a wooden frame around our garden, and taking lots of pictures! We had great fun!
