Tulips PLANTED

Date: 12/14/2007

Number: 1

On Friday, December 14th, two fifth grade classes at Audubon Elementary School planted their tulips in the frozen turf in front of the school. We are a little later than we had planned, but we are confident that our tulips will endure now that they are tucked into the protective cover that 7 inches of earth will provide. We had to shovel away a few inches of snow and break through some pretty tough few layers of frozen earth before we could dig down to our target depth. We surrounded the bulbs with some warm potting soil to enhance their chances to survive this redicules planting time. But it was fun and we have made our predictions for the time of emergence and will now concentrate on our mystery class contest soon to begin......Happy winter solstice to all....and Merry Christmas!
